Project Overview:
PSC Crane & Rigging was contracted to support the installation of a new evaporator vessel at a food and beverage processing facility. The vessel weighed approximately 45,000 pounds and measured nearly 59 feet in length, requiring precise planning and execution to safely position it within an active plant environment.
Prior to setting the new evaporator, significant preparatory work was required. PSC coordinated the removal of existing structural beams and grating, opened the roof to allow access, and installed new support beams designed to carry the load of the upgraded vessel. Because the new evaporator was taller than the existing equipment, additional planning was incorporated for the construction of a penthouse enclosure around the portion of the vessel extending above the building.
The project presented several challenges, including extremely tight working conditions and the need for a tandem pick to bring the vessel upright. Compounding these constraints, the region experienced record snowfall just one week before the lift. The operation was also designated as the facility’s High Priority Safety Task of the Day, placing the project under heightened observation and reinforcing the need for flawless execution.
PSC addressed these challenges through detailed pre-planning, clear communication, and strong collaboration with the customer. The team worked side by side with plant personnel to ensure proper equipment selection, strict adherence to safety protocols, and precise execution of the pre-engineered lift plan. High-level teamwork and constant situational awareness were key to completing the lift safely and efficiently.
Equipment Utilized:
- 360-ton Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2
- 50-ton boom truck
- Tractors and trailers
- Welding machines
- 5-ton Lull
This project highlights PSC Crane & Rigging’s ability to perform complex heavy lift and transport operations in demanding conditions while maintaining an uncompromising focus on safety, coordination, and execution.
